Royals pitcher James Shields will take the mound tonight against his former team, the Rays, and at least one Tampa Bay player is hoping for good things for Shields.
Rays pitcher David Price was at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum to receive his Bullet Rogan "Pitcher of the Year" Award for being the top pitcher in the American League last year. He toured the museum with hitting coach Derek Shelton, pitching coach Jim Hickey and first base coach George Hendrick.
The conversation turned to tonight's game at The K, and to Shields.
“It will be weird," Price said. "I talked with him quite a while yesterday. It will be weird. He is one of my best friends and it’s going to be – sorry, Shelt, -- but it’s going to be tough to cheer for our hitters against a guy like that. Tonight he is the enemy, even though he is one of my best friends.
“If we can win 1-0 and have a couple of hits and just an unearned run for him, that would be a perfect story."
