Catcher Salvy Perez produced another big week at La Guaira in the Venezuelan Winter League by going seven for 20 with five more RBIs in five games. He now owns a .372 average with four doubles, three homers and 14 RBIs in 10 games.
It translates to a 1.103 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage).
Perez had a homer and two RBIs in Saturday's wild 17-16 victory over Magallanes. Long-time Royals farmhand Mario Lisson went three for four with six RBIs for Magallanes, which scored eight runs in the top of the ninth before La Guaira answered with five in the bottom of the inning.
Other winter notables from the last week:
*Shortstop Alcides Escobar made his winter debut by going two for 13 in three games for Lara Venezuela. He scored three runs and drove in two.
*Infielder Christian Colon went four for 16 four games for Ponce in Puerto Rico, which dropped his average to .320 with a .385 OBP through 13 games. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2010 draft.
*Outfielder Luis Durgano, signed recently to a minor-league deal, continues to reach base at a high rate for Anzoategui in Venezuela. His OBP is up to .391 in 32 games. He is batting .286 but has 19 walks.

*Lefty reliever Francisley Bueno pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings in his second start for Licey in the Dominican Republic. He limited Aguilas to one hit while striking out four and walking two.
*Right-handed reliever J.C. Gutierrez, added last week to the 40-man roster, worked four scoreless one-inning appearances for Caracas in Venezuela. He has not allowed a run in his last 10 appearances and has a 1.13 ERA with nine saves in 17 outings.
*Righty Guillermo Moscoso, acquired on waivers last month from Colorado, is also at Caracas. His run of five scoreless relief outings ended Saturday when he allowed two runs in an inning in a 9-4 loss to Margarita. He had yielded only one run in seven innings over six previous appearances.
