Updating some winter ball numbers:
Right-hander Guillermo Moscoso, acquired Oct. 31 by the Royals in a waiver claim from Colorado, has made three one-inning relief appearances since joining Caracas in the Venezuelan Winter League at the start of November.
Moscoso, who turns 29 on Wednesday, allowed one run in his first outing before registering two scoreless appearances. He was 3-2 with a 6.12 ERA in 23 games, including three starts, last season for the Rockies.
Another recent addition, switch-hitting outfielder Luis Durango, is batting .291 with a .380 on-base percentage through 24 games with Anzoategui in Venezuela. He signed a minor-league deal with the Royals after batting .289 with a .352 OBP for Class AAA Gwinnett in the Atlanta system.
Durango, 26, also led the International League with 46 steals in 62 attempts. He spent small parts of the three previous seasons in the majors with Houston and San Diego.
Infielder Christian Colon, the Royals' first-round pick in the 2010, joined Ponce in the Puerto Rican League at the start of the month. He is three for 13 in three games.
Colon, 23, missed the final weeks of last season at Class AAA Omaha after suffering an injured eye when a ball caromed off his bat. Prior to the injury, he batted a combined .301 with a .376 OBP in 85 games at Rookie Surprise, Class AA Northwest Arkansas and Omaha.
Utilityman Irving Falu, 29, also began his winter-ball season earlier this month at Mayaguez in Puerto Rico. He is three for 15 with two doubles through four games.
The Royals' other primary utility candidate, Tony Abreu, is eight for 30 in eight games for Aquilas in the Dominican Winter League.
Two bullpen candidates worth following:
Lefty specialist Francisley Bueno made his winter debut Sunday with a three-inning start for Licey in the Dominican Winter League. Bueno, 31, permitted two runs and three hits. He compiled a 1.56 ERA last season in 18 big-league relief appearances.
Right-hander Juan Gutierrez, 29, has a 1.69 ERA with six saves in seven chances for Caracas. He recorded 15 saves for Arizona in 2010 and is attempting to rebuild his career after missing most of 2011 because of a shoulder injury.
