The matchup is scintillating. Oakland possesses the best record in baseball. Kansas City possesses the longest ongoing winning streak, a seven-game jaunt that has brought them within a half-game of the Tigers in the American League Central.

It is also a lively rematch. These two teams played a trio of interesting games during the first weekend of August. Now they will lock horns again.

Here are the pitching matchups for these next four days at Kauffman Stadium:

Monday, 7:10 p.m.: RHP Yordano Ventura (9-8, 3.47 ERA) vs. RHP Sonny Gray (12-5, 2.87 ERA).

Tuesday, 7:10 p.m.: RHP Jeremy Guthrie (8-9, 4.35 ERA) vs. LHP Jon Lester (12-7, 2.44 ERA).

Wednesday, 7:10 p.m.: LHP Jason Vargas (8-5, 3.68 ERA) vs. LHP Scott Kazmir (13-4, 2.73 ERA).

Thursday, 1:10 p.m.: RHP James Shields (11-6, 3.25 ERA) vs. RHP Jeff Samardzija (5-8, 2.91 ERA).

FROM THE STAR

The Royals battered Tim Lincecum, ripped off their seventh consecutive victory and moved to within a half-game of Detroit.

Jarrod Dyson stole three bases, part of a teamwide heist of seven, their most in a game since 1998.
