LAS VEGAS | Right-handed pitcher Jairo Cuevas must be getting dizzy after returning Wednesday to the Royals in a waiver claim from Atlanta.
The Royals obtained Cuevas, 24, in an Oct. 24 waiver claim from the Braves, who reclaimed him Nov. 26 in a waiver claim. He is 15-18 with a 4.01 ERA in five minor-league seasons in the Braves’ organization.
Cuevas underwent season-ending shoulder surgery Aug. 22 and isn’t expected to be ready to pitch before July. He made just three starts last season for Class AA Mississippi before a sore shoulder forced him to the disabled list.
The Royals added Cuevas to their 40-man roster, which leaves them with one opening on the eve of the Rule 5 draft.
