Minor-league pitcher Jairo Cuevas is heading back to the Atlanta on a waiver claim only 33 days after the Royals acquired him through a waiver claim from the Braves.
Cuevas, a 24-year-old right-hander, spent five years in the Atlanta organization before joining the Royals in an Oct. 24 claim. He pitched just seven games last season at rookie Gulf Coast and Class AA Mississippi.
The move was announced Wednesday afternoon and leaves the Royals with 39 players on their 40-man roster.
Cuevas signed with the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on March 20, 2003. He was 15-18 with a 4.01 ERA in 81 minor-league games over the last five seasons.
