Royals’ hitting coach won’t return in 2009

The Royals announced today that hitting coach Mike Barnett and third base coach Luis Silverio will not be offered major-league contracts for the 2009 season. Silverio was offered another coaching position within the organization.

The team did offer 2009 contracts to manager Trey Hillman’s other four coaches — pitching coach Bob McClure, bench coach Dave Owen, first base coach Rusty Kuntz and bullpen coach John Mizerock.
