The Chiefs signed defensive end Vaughn Martin on Tuesday, according to the NFL's transaction report.
Martin, a 28-year old who is listed at 6 feet 4 and 300 pounds, is a five-year pro who has spent time with the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers.
Martin, who attended the University of Western Ontario, was taken by the Chargers in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft after an impressive pro day performance in which he ran a 4.96 40-yard dash at 330 pounds and bench pressed 225 pounds an impressive 44 times.
Martin did not start a game his first two years in the league, recording 12 total tackles and one sack in 20 games in 2009 and 2010.
Never miss a local story.
His most productive years came as a starting defensive end in the Chargers' 3-4 scheme in 2011 and 2012, however, when he recorded 66 combined tackles and two sacks in 28 games (27 starts) and posted Pro Football Focus grade of negative-21.6 in 2011 and negative-17.9 in 2012.
Martin signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins before the 2013 season and recorded a tackle in three games before he was released in November of that season. He signed with the Lions in March 2014 but was released in June.
