Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce hosted a private shopping experience for approximately 50 underserved children from the Linwood YMCA on Tuesday evening at the J.C. Penney in Independence.
“The holidays just aren’t about getting gifts for yourself,” Kelce said. “We have to give back to the people around us. It’s all about the loving spirit of the holidays.”
Each child was provided with a $100 gift card at the event, where Kelce helped them select gifts for their family and friends.
“I don’t have a lot of family out here,” said Kelce, an Ohio native. “So getting around these kids and seeing them smile, that makes me just as warm as seeing some family around the holidays.”
Kelce hosted the same event a year ago.
“It’s important for me to show the kids and the people the city that I care about them as much as they care about me,” he said.
As a part of the event, J.C. Penney also made a $100,000 donation to the YMCA.
