Sporting Kansas City announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with 22-year-old midfielder Michael Kafari.
Coach Peter Vermes classified the addition as more of a long-term project rather than an immediate impact. Kafari is a defensive midfielder.
“He’s definitely a kid that’s going to be more of a future kid, somebody who we are going to take some time and see if he can progress here and see how he fits in,” Vermes said. “He has some qualities we like. He’s a central midfielder type player. Well see over some time how he fits in.”
A native of Ghana, Kafari moved to the United States in 2001. He played at the University of New Mexico, scoring three goals and adding three assists in his career.
Kafari has been training with the club for the past week.
