Matt Besler and Graham Zusi are scheduled to return to the United States on Thursday morning after the U.S. men’s national team was eliminated from the World Cup in Brazil.
Their return to Sporting Kansas City remains undetermined after they helped the Americans reach the knockout stage of the World Cup, where they were eliminated by Belgium on Tuesday. Neither will play in Sporting Kansas City’s home match Sunday against Chicago, though both are expected to be in attendance and will likely be recognized prior to the match, which starts at 2 p.m.
Besler is scheduled for a national media tour Friday morning that includes stops at “SportsCenter,” “Good Morning America,” “Morning Joe,” “Scott Van Pelt & Russillo“ and CNN, along with several others. He will arrive in Kansas City on Friday evening.
Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes has not yet talked to Besler and Zusi about their return to the club’s training when it resumes next week. Sporting KC travels to face Montreal on July 12 and plays in Columbus on July 16.
Zusi and Besler last appeared for Sporting KC on May 14. The defending MLS champions moved back to the top of the Eastern Conference standings following a 1-0 victory Friday in Portland.
