Sporting Kansas City midfielder Victor Munoz made the first start of his professional career Wednesday, though it didn’t last long.
Munoz, who joined Sporting KC in April after he was let go by D.C. United, left Wednesday’s match in the first half because of a strained hamstring.
Sporting Club announced five nominees for the 2014 Sporting Legend, an honor reserved for the club’s icons.
Jimmy Conrad, Mo Johnston, Chris Klein, Peter Vermes and Kerry Zavagnin are up for the election, which began last summer with an inaugural class of Preki, Tony Meola and Bob Gansler.
The winner will be selected based on a weighted vote through social media and a fan vote that runs through June 30 on the team website.
Jacob Peterson started at right fullback Wednesday, replacing Igor Juliao, who was given the night off after aggravating a quad injury in a match against Houston on June 6. It marked Peterson’s first start as a member of the Sporting KC defense in his three years with the team.
Minnesota United FC fifth-year coach Manny Lagos and Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes were teammates with the New York-New Jersey MetroStars in 1996, the inaugural season for the MLS. Lagos played professionally for 16 seasons
