The next TV voice of Sporting Kansas City will be familiar.
The club announced Monday that it has hired Nate Bukaty to be the lead TV play-by-play announcer for the 2015 season, replacing Callum Williams, who served in the role for the previous four years.
Bukaty has been broadcasting for Sporting KC in various roles since he began a soccer radio show in 2010, culminating in his role as the radio play-by-play man for home games last season.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity,” he said in a release. “As a Kansas City native and local soccer fan, I vividly remember attending professional indoor soccer games as a kid. I’ve witnessed the exponential growth of soccer in this city over the past 20 years and I’m excited to be in the thick of it. It’s a dream come true to work for Sporting Kansas City, calling a sport that I love.”
Never miss a local story.
Williams and Diego Gutierrez formed the club’s two-man TV booth last season. Gutierrez also will not return next season in his color commentating role. His replacement has not been named.
Bukaty also served as a sideline reporter for Sporting KC during its 2013 MLS Cup championship run. He is the co-host of “The Border Patrol” radio show on WHB (810 AM), a job he has held since 2007.
In addition to TV games, Bukaty will also host a weekly Sporting KC radio show, the release said.
The club also announced Monday that Jake Yadrich will remain on the broadcast team next season after he worked as the sideline reporter for Sporting’s TV network this season.
