Born Kei Ansu Kamara, but known better around these parts simply as “Kei,” this Sierra Leone native remained a fan of Sporting Kansas City even once his career took him elsewhere.

Initially brought to KC in 2009 via a trade with the Houston Dynamo, Kamara quickly became a fan favorite — and one of Sporting’s most lethal scorers. So potent was his attack that he was signed on loan by Norwich City of the English Premiere League in January.

Once that stint ended, Kamara was back in Kansas City ... but only briefly. In September, after logging 10 starts for Sporting (seven goals, two assists), he was claimed by another English side: Middlesbrough FC of the Football League Championship.

Even with all of his globe-trotting, Kamara made sure he was in front of a TV to watch his old KC mates claim the MLS Cup on Dec. 7, tweeting, “So proud of this team. #MLSCUPCHAMPS Kansas City deserves it all. Don't forget to mail my ring. Jk. #SKCNation”
