Sporting KC’s magical season included a deserved nod to manager Vermes

Sporting KC’s manager Peter Vermes was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame as a veterans’ selection during a special ceremony before the U.S.-Jamaica World Cup qualifier on Oct. 11 at Sporting Park.

Perhaps Peter Vermes is so well-liked in Kansas City because of his coaching ability. He’s an MLS Cup champ, after all. Or perhaps it’s because he also won an MLS Cup as a formidable player, with the Wizards in 2000.

Or maybe we appreciate this fiery New Jersey native because, on top of the accolades, he’s really just one of us: a regular guy with an unquenchable passion for soccer. We’ll go with all of the above, and give two Sporting-blue thumbs up to the National Soccer Hall of Fame, which inducted Sporting KC’s manager as a veterans’ selection during a special ceremony before the U.S.-Jamaica World Cup qualifier on Oct. 11 at Sporting Park.

Said Vermes, “I really appreciate the life that I’ve had in this game. I appreciate all the people that I’ve been around.”
