United States vs. Jamaica

5:30 p.m. Friday at Sporting Park

At 5-1-2, the Americans are atop the CONCACAF standings and have clinched a spot in next year’s World Cup in Brazil. … Former Wizards star Eddie Johnson has four goals in qualifying, while Jozy Altidore has three. … The United States is 7-0-0 at home in World Cup qualifying in this cycle. … Sporting Kansas City’s Matt Besler and Graham Zusi are with the U.S. team.

With a 0-4-4 record, the Jamaicans are last in the group, but the Reggae Boyz are holding out hope of sneaking into the CONCACAF playoff against New Zealand. … However, Jamaica is 0-4-3 in road matches this cycle and has never won in the United States. … Dane Richards, Demar Phillips and Luton Shelton each have two goals for Jamaica, but Shelton wasn’t included on the trip. Top goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts is also out with an injured finger.

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann says the U.S. team won’t let up just because the Americans have qualified for the World Cup in part because the squad owes it to the fans in Kansas City. A raucous crowd should overwhelm the Jamaicans, who will go for the win and be vulnerable to the U.S. attack.
