Sporting Kansas City added to its defensive depth Friday with the signing of Federico Bessone, who will fill a senior international roster spot.
A former FC Barcelona youth product, Bessone has played professionally in Spain and England. He was released in April by Oldham Athletic A.F.C. of League One in England.
“He’s a technical and experienced player who can play anywhere on the left side,” Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said.
Bessone, 29, has spent the past two weeks training with Sporting KC.
“The quality of the team is magnificent,” said Bessone, who is from Argentina. “I’m very happy to be here. The city is great, the people are so friendly and my teammates have been tremendous with me.”
The addition Friday comes on MLS roster freeze deadline day, making Bessone eligible for the MLS Cup playoffs, as well as the remainder of the regular season.
Bessone will wear No. 23.
