Dom Dwyer’s latest one-game stay with Orlando City SC was a memorable one.
Three days after Sporting Kansas City loaned Dwyer, a second-year forward to the Lions for the USL Pro championship game, he responded with a career night.
Dwyer scored four goals in a 7-4 victory over Charlotte on Saturday, leading Orlando City to the 2013 USL Pro championship in front of 20,866 fans at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
“That’s why we sent him down there. We knew he was gonna score all those goals,” Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes deadpanned.
Dwyer scored his first two goals in the first half. After Charlotte took a 3-2 lead early in the second half, he responded with two more goals, giving Orlando City the lead for good.
Bliss returns to Kansas City
After serving as the club’s technical director, Brian Bliss was appointed interim coach for the Columbus Crew on Monday.
His second match in a new position came in a rather familiar place.
Bliss played for the Kansas City Wizards in 1998 before serving as an assistant with the team during 2000-06. He also briefly held the interim manager title for the Wizards in 2006.
Bliss won his debut Wednesday against Houston, 2-0.
A (brief) Sporting KC debut
Jimmy Medranda made his Sporting KC debut when he subbed into the game in the 90th minute Saturday. Medranda, 19, was acquired last month on loan from Deportivo Pereira in Colombia.
