Three Sporting Kansas City players were called up for national team duty Monday, including two starters from Sporting’s 1-1 draw against the D.C. United on Sunday at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
Midfielder Peterson Joseph and right back Mechack Jerome were called into camp by the Haiti men’s national team for international friendlies against Spain on June 8 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami and Italy on June 12 at Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Joseph has appeared in 23 MLS matches, including the playoffs, with Sporting KC during three seasons, while Jerome, who was signed off Orlando City SC’s roster before the season, has made seven appearances with the club.
Meanwhile, Sporting KC’s rookie first-round draft pick, midfielder Mikey Lopez, will join the U.S. under-20 men’s national team for the 2013 Toulon Tournament in France on May 28-June 8, which serves as a tune-up for the FIFA Youth World Cup on June 21-July 13 in Turkey.
Lopez is one of seven midfielders selected for the team.
