The new Sporting Kansas City jerseys have been leaked — by one of the team’s own players.
Midfielder Ilie Sanchez unveiled the club’s secondary jerseys Wednesday via his social media accounts. The kits feature an all-black look with metallic silver lettering and logos.
“This kit is an evolution of our previous argyle kits, showcasing a high-end reflex black with metallic accents,” said John Moncke, the team’s vice president of brand revenue. “Five years ago we launched the black argyle kit, then followed that up with a clean white and metallic argyle kit in 2015. This time we used a new black reflective argyle detail on the hem and back that looks amazing.”
Never miss a local story.
Moncke said the design process for the new jerseys began two years ago.
The Adidas tops hold the Sporting KC shield and MLS Cup stars, a league logo and an Ivy Investments sponsorship logo. An argyle pattern lines the back of the neck. Below it, the names and numbers have a matte finish. The shorts, which are also black, have three metallic stripes down the side.
The jersey will be available for purchase at 5 p.m. Feb. 28, when the team holds its official season launch party at Children’s Mercy Park. More information about that event will be announced at a later date, according to the team.
