Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum will miss Saturday’s match against Toronto FC, coach Peter Vermes said Friday.
Jon Kempin, who attended Blue Valley North High School, will make the first start of his Major League Soccer career. Kempin, 21, made his MLS debut in the second half of Sunday’s loss in Vancouver.
Gruenebaum strained a muscle in his rotator cuff during the 15th minute of that 2-0 defeat.
Vermes said Gruenebaum will also likely miss Tuesday’s CONCACAF match against Real Esteli, which will be played in Nicaragua.
