A preseason match Saturday offered the site for the first professional goal of forward James Ansu Rogers’ career. Four days later, Sporting Kansas City awarded its third-round draft pick with an MLS contract.
Ansu Rogers, the 53rd overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, signed with the club Wednesday.
“His work ethic and persistence on every day on every play is tremendous,” Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said. “He’s definitely earned a spot.”
Ansu Rogers, 21, scored 22 goals in four seasons with New Mexico. He represented the U.S. under-20 men’s national team in 2012 after previously appearing for the under-15 national team in 2007.
“I really appreciate the chance I have been given,” Ansu Rogers said in a release. “I look forward to working hard and doing my best.”
