After just one season with FC Kansas City, Lauren Sesselmann is headed to the newly-formed Houston Dash after being selected in the National Women’s Soccer League Expansion Draft on Friday.
In October, Houston became the ninth team to join the NWSL and first expansion team. Sesselmann, who also plays for the Canadian National Team, was one of 10 players selected by the Dash, which included three allocated National team players. The team will be owned by Dynamo ownership group and operated by Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo.
Sesselmann started 19 games at defender for FC Kansas City this season and was named to the NWSL Second XI.
"It’s always tough to lose a player, but especially when that player is of the caliber of Lauren Sesselmann," FC Kansas City president Brian Budzinski said. "We wish her well in Houston. That being said, we are very excited with our prospects in the upcoming college draft and our outlook for the season."
FC Kansas City will have four picks in the 2014 NWSL college draft starting with the fifth overall selection. The draft will take place at 9 a.m. on Jan. 17.
