Erika Tymrak is making the transition to professional soccer look awfully easy.
Five days shy of her 22nd birthday, Tymrak, a rookie midfielder for FC Kansas City, was chosen National Women’s Soccer League player of the month for July.
She is the first rookie to win the award and the second consecutive player for FC Kansas City to take it home. Lauren Holiday won the honor in June.
And to think — less than three months ago, Tymrak was coming off the bench as a late-game substitution.
Not anymore. A product of Florida, Tymrak has started the past 13 matches. She scored three goals and added one assist in July and took over playmaking midfield duties while Holiday missed two matches for her wedding.
FC Kansas City was unbeaten in six July matches, moving from third to first place.
The Blues will travel to face second-place Portland on Sunday for a 7:30 p.m. start. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer.
