Matt Besler added to his international resume Wednesday, though it came in a losing effort against Chile.
Besler notched his first career assist with the United States men’s national team during a 3-2 exhibition loss in Rancagua, Chile.
Besler, Sporting Kansas City’s captain, floated a perfectly-placed pass to Brek Shea along the left side of the field, and Shea rifled home the shot for a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute.
Roberto Gutierrez tied the match with a goal in the 10th minute for Chile, but the Americans regained the lead when Jozy Altidore scored in the 31st minute.
Never miss a local story.
It was still 2-1 at halftime, but Mark Gonzalez scored in the 66th and 75 minutes as Chile rallied for the victory.
Besler played the full 90 minutes in his 24th national team appearance.
The loss gave the 27th-ranked American team its first five-game winless streak since 2007.
