Metro bus expands service to Kauffman Stadium

Kansas City’s Metro bus system is expanding service to Kauffman Stadium on weeknights and Saturdays, which should provide Royals fans with another way to get out to the games.

Royals fans now have another option for getting to nighttime or Saturday games at the K.

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority has just expanded the hours of service to stops near Kauffman Stadium on the Metro’s 47-Broadway bus.

After 6 p.m. on weekdays, 47 will offer hourly service, with the last westbound bus leaving Blue Ridge Crossing at 11:15 p.m. On Saturdays, 47 will offer hourly service after 6 p.m. and all Saturday night trips will run between downtown and Blue Ridge Crossing, with the last westbound bus leaving Blue Ridge Crossing at 11:17 p.m. Previously, the last westbound bus on weeknights stopped at about 7:30 or 8 p.m., and Saturday buses stopped at 7 p.m.

“We are excited about it,” ATA Marketing Supervisor Bridget Moss said Wednesday of the expanded hours. “Especially after the last Royals season, more people want to go out to the games, and we’re happy we can help get them there.”

Moss emphasized that this is not an express or charter bus just to the K, and this bus will still make its regular stops along the route. Federal charter regulations don’t allow the ATA to provide charter or shuttle service when other private companies can do so, she said. But the new regular bus service also means that people can get to and from the nighttime games from stops all along 47’s route, from Downtown through the Country Club Plaza to Blue Ridge Crossing.

Before 2009, the KCATA offered an express service to Royals games, but that service went away with budget cuts, and the charter regulations changed.

Bus officials decided demand now warrants at least offering extended hours on the regular bus route.

The regular fare is $1.50 each way, or people can get a $3 day pass. The closest stops to Kauffman Stadium for the eastbound 47-Broadway are northbound Blue Ridge Cutoff at 40th Terrace (near Taco Bell) and northbound Blue Ridge Cutoff at 41st Street, outside ITT Tech.

The closest stop for westbound 47-Broadway is on southbound Blue Ridge Cutoff between 41st Terrace and Stadium Entrance D Drive.

New schedules are available on buses, in schedule racks and online at Route and schedule information are also available at 816-221-0660 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.
