The Royals announced the signing of three players to minor-league contracts Saturday: infielder Brian Bocock, outfielder Johermyn Chavez and right-hander Cory Wade.
Wade, 30, pitched for the Dodgers in 2008-09 and Yankees in 2011-12. In 2011, he struck out 30 and walked eight in 40 relief appearances covering 39 1/3 innings, going 6-1 with a 2.04 ERA. He spent last season in Class AAA for three different organizations, the Cubs, Rays and Mets.
Bocock, 28, also has major-league experience, appearing in 32 major-league games for the Giants in 2008, mostly at shortstop. He also played in six big-league games for Philadelphia in 2010 and spent last season in Class AAA Syracuse and Indianapolis.
Chavez, 24, played 24 games for the Cubs’ Class AA Tennessee team last season.
