Mike Moustakas and Wade Davis are the first Royals’ player and pitcher of the month.
Moustakas is off to a torrid start at the plate, taking a .356 average into Friday’s game against the Tigers.
The average ranks fifth in the American League, and Moustakas is second in the AL in runs scored (19) and multihit games (11). This marks the first time Moustakas has won the team’s monthly award.
Davis has pitched nine scoreless innings. He took over as closer with Greg Holland on the disabled list and has converted all four save opportunities.
Davis ranks first among AL relief pitchers with an 0.33 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched, and opposing batters are hitting .069 (two for 29) against him.
Davis was the Royals’ pitcher of the month three times last season.
