The Milwaukee Brewers battered Royals starter Edinson Volquez for six runs in four innings in an 8-4 defeat Wednesday.
The biggest blow occurred in Volquez’s final inning, when he yielded a three-run homer to leadoff hitter Gerardo Parra. But Milwaukee harassed him all afternoon. They tagged him for eight hits and two walks.
Khris Davis smacked a two-run double in the first inning. Volquez loaded the bases and allowed a sacrifice fly in the second. In the fourth, Parra went deep. The deluge elevated Volquez’s Cactus League ERA to 9.72.
For the Royals, Mike Moustakas clobbered his first home run of the spring. His second-inning solo blast cleared the stadium gates in right field. Moustakas added an RBI single in the fifth.
