It’s getting serious now.
The Royals announced a playoff pricing plan for season-ticket holders should the team advance to the postseason for the first time since 1985. The team sent the plan to season ticket holders via email.
In a news release, the Royals said season-ticket holders will have the option of paying for the tickets in a three-installment plan.
“Seat assignments, invoice payments and ticket distribution must be completed in September in preparation for potential 2014 postseason games,” the team said in the release. “Current Royals season-ticket holders will receive an exclusive online opportunity to reserve playoff tickets before the general public is given an opportunity to purchase.”
The team said Major League Baseball requires postseason invoices to include tickets for every potential playoff game at Kauffman Stadium. That means tickets for all potential playoff games, including tiebreaker games (for the wild card or AL Central title), are included in the postseason ticket packages available to season-ticket holders.
There are two tiers to the pricing plan: one for fans with full- or half-season plans and one for fans on a partial (21-game) plan.
An example of the prices:
A ticket for an outfield box seat to a tie-breaker, a wild-card or division series game are $42 for those with a partial plan and $40 for full- or half-season plans. That would jump to $80/$70 for the American League Championship Series and $185/$175 for the World Series. The total strip plan (14 tickets) would be $1,312/$1,220 for those particular seats.
In a search of the Royals’ website, those tickets are $34 for the Royals’ game against the Tigers on Sept. 19.
Postseason Crown Club seats for someone with a partial plan would run $365/$385/$475/$5,630.
The Royals said all prices are set in conjunction with Major League Baseball.
Additionally, the team said if the Royals miss the playoffs or don’t play every possible postseason game, credits for unused tickets (and parking) will be automatically applied toward a 2015 season ticket package. However, fans also will have the option to receive a refund (www.royals.com/refund) by Nov. 14.
