Nearly 87 years ago, a plane carrying legendary Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne lost a wing and crashed on a farm in rural Chase County, Kan., killing everyone aboard. A marble and limestone monument was built at the crash site honoring Rockne and the seven others who died.
Dozens of hockey players joined together for a fundraising game in 2016 at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, Ill., in support of Mission, Kan., goalie Bob Klem and his Have a Skate with Bob Foundation that has raised more than $165,000 to fight pancreatic cancer. Klem died during a hockey game in Independence Feb. 16.
