The Olathe East Hawks seemed well on their way to victory against Olathe South before lightning delayed the start of the second half.

The Hawks took a 21-0 lead into the locker room and never returned as the game was halted about one half-hour later.

The second half of the game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Olathe District Activity Center.

The Hawks were efficient, scoring on three of their five drives in the first half. Senior running back Jordan Brown started the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run on the Hawk’s first drive.

On the next possession, the Hawks needed just two plays to score from the Falcons’ 48 yard line.

Junior Jalen Branson gained 4 yards before senior quarterback Connor Leach connected with senior Braxton Miller who made a leaping catch and dodged a handful of defenders for a 44-yard touchdown reception.

Leach and Miller connected again in the second quarter on a 3-yard touchdown pass which left Olathe South with 12 seconds on the clock in the half.

Sophomore kicker Chris Diddle did his part to keep the Falcons restricted to their half of the field with two touchbacks and a kick grounded at the Olathe South 9-yard line. The Falcons passed the 50-yard line twice in the first half, but got pulled back into their own territory after a pair of penalties.

The only real mistake by the Hawks came on an interception in the end zone in the second quarter, but the Falcons failed to capitalize and instead lost it on their own 35 after a failed punt which led to the Hawks’ third touchdown.
