Rockhurst senior Kyle McLagan announced via Twitter on Monday that he will attend Furman next year on a soccer scholarship.
"Proud and excited to say I have committed to play soccer next year at Furman University," McLagan tweeted.
His commitment comes three days afterhe was named The Star's All-Metro boys soccer player of the year
for his role in helping Rockhurst win its sixth state championship in school history.
After playing defender most of his soccer career, McLagan moved to striker midway through his senior season, and the Hawklets promptly won their next 15 matches. McLagan scored the game-winning goal in eight of those victories, and he scored twice during a 3-1 win over Timberland in the Missouri Class 3 state championship.
Furman, a Division I program located in Greenville, S.C., finished 11-5-2 last season. McLagan expects to return to his role of defender in college, he said.
