Tonight is the first night of district play in Kansas high school football. Here are five games to watch.
Week 6 record: 3-2
Overall record: 21-9
Olathe East (3-3) at Olathe North (6-0)
Never miss a local story.
The Hawks have lost two consecutive games and their road does not get any easier against the undefeated Eagles. Olathe North won three close games to start the season, but seems to have finally found a groove averaging 43 point in each of their last three.
Prediction: Olathe North 42, Olathe East 14
Blue Valley Southwest (3-3) at St. Thomas Aquinas (4-2)
Both of these teams started the season 3-0, but have fallen on hard times more recently. The Timberwolves have lost three straight and are coming off a 53-14 loss to Bishop Miege. The Saints lost to Blue Valley.
Prediction: St. Thomas Aquinas 28, Blue Valley Southwest 14
Shawnee Mission Northwest (2-4) at Shawnee Mission West (2-4)
The Vikings might only have two victories this season, but they should come into this matchup with a lot of confidence after defeating Olathe East last week. Shawnee Mission Northwest was not as lucky. The Cougars were shut out 31-0 by Olathe Northwest.
Prediction: Shawnee Mission West 24, Shawnee Mission Northwest 21
St. James Academy (5-1) at Mill Valley (2-4)
The Thunder bounced back in a big way after their week four shutout loss to Helias. They have outscored opponents 62-8 in the last two games to improve to 5-1. Mill Valley, which opted for a more difficult open schedule, is coming off its first Kaw Valley league victory.
Prediction: St. James Academy 35, Mill Valley 17
Olathe South (5-1) at Blue Valley Northwest (4-2)
Although they have been playing closer games, the Falcons stayed among the leaders in the Sunflower League with three consecutive victories since their one-point overtime loss to Olathe North. Blue Valley Northwest recovered from a rocky start to win three straight.
Prediction: Olathe South 28, Blue Valley Northwest 21
