There was no official update on the condition of Olathe East High School senior linebacker James McGinnis on Thursday, according to HCA Midwest assistant vice president Chris Hamele.
McGinnis has been in the hospital since last Friday night when he collapsed during a high school football game against Olathe South. He had emergency surgery that night to relieve swelling and stop bleeding around his brain. The surgery was successful and he was moved to urgent care early Saturday morning.
In the family’s most recent statement issued on Tuesday, McGinnis’ father, Pat, said that McGinnis “showed signs of improvement, including responses when we played his favorite music from the Zac Brown Band.”
