The 22nd annual Hy-Vee Shootout tips off Friday at Mabee Fieldhouse at Avila University. The schedule features five games Friday and eight games Saturday, all of them pitting Missouri teams against Kansas programs. Admission is $7 per day.
Let’s take a loot at the shootout by the numbers:
4 — Double-double outings from St. Pius senior Abby Hipp this season. Hipp, a Missouri State signee, is averaging 13.3 points and 10.9 rebounds through seven games. The Warriors, 6-1, will play Leavenworth at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Hy-Vee Shootout opener.
5 — Returning starters this season for the Olathe Northwest boys team, which is off to a 4-0 start after winning the Paola Invitational last week. The Ravens will close out the Hy-Vee Shootout with a matchup against Raytown at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Never miss a local story.
6 — Teams in the Hy-Vee Shootout that have already won tournament championships this season. Lee’s Summit West, Center, St. James Academy, Park Hill and Olathe Northwest have captured boys tournament titles this month. And the Lee’s Summit North girls team cruised to its own tournament championship in the opening week of the season.
21 — First-half points for Blue Springs senior Tyree King in a victory against Truman this week. A deadly outside shooter, King has expanded his scoring repertoire as a senior. The Wildcats will face a stacked Bishop Miege team at 7 p.m. Friday.
