This weekend’s NFL games

More News

Dallas at Philadelphia (-3), 7:15, Ch. 41

A game for big-play receivers. Dallas WR Miles Austin, who started with a monster, two-TD game against the Chiefs, has caught 21 passes for 482 yards and five TDs in the past three games. Meanwhile, Philadelphia WR/KR DeSean Jackson has scored six TDs of at least 50 yards this season. One of those scores was a 64-yard TD reception against the Chiefs.

Pittsburgh (-3) at Denver, 7:30 Monday, ESPN

In February, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin, at 36, became the youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl. Now, Denver’s Josh McDaniels, the NFL’s youngest active coach at 33, is trying to top that. McDaniels guided the Broncos to a 6-0 start, the third-best start by a rookie head coach since 1930, before last week’s loss at Baltimore.

Baltimore (-3) at Cincinnati, noon

The Bengals face the most crucial two weeks of their season with today’s game and next week’s trip to Pittsburgh. Even a split would be good when looking at their next three games: at Oakland and home to Cleveland and Detroit. Here’s a stat to warm the hearts of Elvis Grbac fans: When Ravens QB Joe Flacco completed 80 percent of his passes in last week’s win against Denver, he tied a club record for accuracy set by Grbac in 2001, his lone season with the Ravens.

Houston at Indianapolis (-9), noon

The Colts are streaking: They have won 16 straight regular-season games dating to last season. DE Dwight Freeney has recorded a sack in each of the Colts’ first seven games of the season and his last eight games dating to last season, tying for the fifth-longest streak since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.

Miami at New England (-10 1/2 ), noon

This is where the wildcat craze began, when a desperate Dolphins team unveiled the new offense in an upset of the Patriots. Miami RB Ronnie Brown accounted for five TDs as the Dolphins snapped New England’s NFL-record 21-game regular-season win streak with a 38-13 romp. The Dolphins, 1-15 a season earlier, went on to win the AFC East. The Dolphins are 3-0 against the AFC East, 0-4 against the rest of the league.

Carolina at New Orleans (-13), 3:05, Ch. 4

The Saints will try to start 8-0 for the first time in franchise history, but the Panthers have won seven straight road games against New Orleans since John Fox took over as head coach in 2002 — six straight in the Superdome and a game played in Baton Rouge in the Hurricane Katrina year of 2005.

San Diego at N.Y. Giants (-5), 3:15, Ch. 5

Where would these teams be without the Chiefs and Raiders? Three of the Chargers’ four wins are against Kansas City and Oakland; four of the Giants’ five wins are against Washington, KC, Oakland and Tampa Bay.

Arizona at Chicago (-3), noon

The Cardinals are 3-0 on the road for the first time since 1982, when they were based in St. Louis. The Bears have won six straight at Soldier Field dating to last season, though the last two wins have been over Detroit and Cleveland.

Washington at Atlanta (-9), noon

Former Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez has a TD catch in all three home games with the Falcons.

Green Bay (-9 1/2 ) at Tampa Bay, noon

The Buccaneers will bring out the orange Creamsicle jerseys for the first time since 1996 in an attempt to win for the first time this season.

Detroit at Seattle (-10), 3:05

Remember the classic when these teams last met? The Seahawks won 9-6 in a game featuring five field goals on opening day 2006 in Detroit. Expect the same today.

Tennessee at San Francisco (-4), 3:15

Give it up for Titans QB Vince Young, who in his first start of the season last week took advantage of RB Chris Johnson’s amazing 228-yard performance and led the Titans to their first win.
