Is Carl biased in favor of his sons? Absolutely.
I highly doubt that C.J. Henry is a better player or more talented than an in-shape Sherron Collins. But based on the difficulty of the workouts conducted by Carl and the trainer described in The Star story, maybe Carl knows that C.J. will be in far better condition than Collins.
And it’s damn sure no big deal that Carl Henry didn’t answer Bill Self’s initial phone call. Carl Henry isn’t a typical KU basketball fan dying to talk with Coach Self. The truth is, Bill Self better answer Carl Henry’s phone calls within three rings. That’s the reality.
Unfortunately, too many people still live in college basketball’s make-believe world, where the athletes should think more about an education to fall back on rather than a contract that would allow them to pay for the education of family members and loved ones.
The system created this entire fiasco. Ethical people are being forced to operate in an unethical system. Everyone looks bad. The schools at the top (Kansas) look slimy in their attempts to hold on to power, and the schools at the bottom (Kansas State) look slimy in their attempts to gain power.
Rather than blame Carl Henry or Bill Self or an aggressive reporter, we should target the people responsible for creating, supporting and enforcing the bogus rules that inspire deceit and turmoil.
