Keeping a close watch

The media have been watching Roger Clemens’ personal life the way Bill Belichick watches opposing coaches — or used to, anyway.

Federal agents are investigating Clemens. There have been reports in the New York Daily News that he cheated on his wife.

And I get the feeling this is going to get worse before it gets better, and already the situation is so ugly it ought to be a Halloween mask.

Climbing

Ron Simmons: Say what you want about pro wrasslin’. And call Simmons, the WWE star, what you want, but now you have to call him a Hall of Famer. Before his years of success in the wrestling ring, Simmons played nose tackle at Florida State and by his senior season in 1980, he had helped the Seminoles become a national power. Simmons on Thursday was selected to the College Football Hall of Fame. Damn!

Randy Moss: The Patriots receiver has decided to get into auto racing (truck series) with Moss Motorsports. His top truck will probably break all sorts of records and make fantasy owners ecstatic, then lose the series title in the last race.

Holding steady

Milka Duno: Finished 16th at the IndyCar Turbo 300 at Kansas Speedway last week. But Duno plays Kellie Gearbox in “Speed Racer,” which hits theaters May 9. Hope she’s a better actress than driver.

Jason Taylor: The offseason has been going great for the Miami defensive end — away from football, that is. He’s on “Dancing with the Stars.” He made People magazine’s 100 most beautiful list. But Taylor’s boss, Dolphins honcho Bill Parcells, is reportedly giving him as much love as the sun gives a snowman.

Slipping

Samuel Dalembert: The Philadelphia center couldn’t lift his team past the Pistons in the first round. But that wasn’t the worst thing to happen to him this week. That haircut was. Dalembert had this crazy Mohawk with “SD” cut into the left side. I figured it was his initials. Dalembert said it stood for “strong defense.” Charles Barkley on “Inside the NBA” said it stood for “sucky dude.”

•Trash talk: Wizards ... Cavs ... Soulja Boy ... Jay-Z ... DeShawn ... LeBron ... menacing gestures … Brendan Haywood … “trying to hurt me” ... tough fouls … Internet rap songs ... Hey, guys, that’s enough, OK? It was funny at first, but even I’ve heard enough about this.

And according to Michael Wilbon’s column in the Washington Post Thursday, Wizards forward Antawn Jamison agrees: “All the talk, all the silliness had gotten so much attention, it was time to just play ball. We were down three-one, on the brink of elimination, I just told them that all this talking was not making them look bad, it was making us look bad. We’re a veteran team, and it was time for us to start acting like it.”
