Things looked promising early for UMKC in the Kangaroos’ road game on Thursday night against Grand Canyon.
But things didn’t last for UMKC, as the Kangaroos lost to Grand Canyon 79-62 in Phoenix.
With the loss, UMKC dropped to 6-18 and 1-6 in the WAC. It was the Kangaroos’ fourth straight defeat. The Antelopes, meanwhile, upped their marks to 16-7 and 5-2.
UMKC had a lead of 15-8 with about 12 minutes, 30 seconds left in the first half, but Grand Canyon mounted its rally and had a 39-28 lead by halftime.
Grand Canyon — which leads the WAC in field-goal percentage defense and three-point field goal percentage defense — was able to hold back UMKC in the second half.
UMKC, which made 6 of 23 three-pointers, was led in scoring by Broderick Robinson, who had 16 points.
Keonta Vernon paced the Antelopes with 18 points.
