Missouri’s Jakeenan Gant selected for USA Basketball under-18 national team

Jakeenan Gant, who signed with Missouri in November and remained committed to the Tigers after Kim Anderson was hired last week, was among 21 players nationwide selected Monday for the 2014 USA Basketball men’s under-18 national team training camp.
USA Basketball’s camp is scheduled for June 10-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The top 12 players will compete in the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, which takes place June 20-24 in Colorado Springs.
The top four teams from North America, South America and the Caribbean advance to the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships.
Gant, a 6-foot-8 and 215-pound forward, was chosen as Mr. Georgia Basketball last season after averaging 21.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 2.8 assists for Effingham County.
He was the Georgia Class 5A player of the year as a junior after averaging 17.9 points and 9.3 reounds.
Gant moved to Osage, Mo., after Effingham County’s season ended.
