Missouri baseball coach Tim Jamieson receives three-year contract extension
Tim Jamieson will get at least three more seasons to help Missouri baseball climb the ranks in the Southeastern Conference.
MU announced Wednesday that new athletic director Mack Rhoades had reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension with Jamieson, whose current deal was set to expire June 30.
Jamieson’s base salary of $208,080 won’t change, but a release announcing the move says the Tigers’ baseball budget will increase in an effort to help the program remain competitive.
Missouri finished 30-28 and 15-15 in the SEC last season, third in the East Division.
“We are pleased Tim will continue to lead our program,” Rhoades said in the release. “This year’s team made encouraging progress and we look forward to moving the program forward with the current roster of talented, young student-athletes in addition to the highly-regarded young men joining our program next year.”
Jamieson is 672-535-2 in 21 seasons at Missouri. He trails only Gene McArtor, who won 733 games, on the career coaching wins list and will become the second-longest tenured MU baseball coach behind John Simmons next season.
Missouri, which has won 30 games in 15 of Jamieson’s 21 years, narrowly missed returning to the NCAA Tournament this season. The Tigers, who had made eight NCAA regional appearances under Jamieson during 2003-09 and in 2012, were the second team left out of the field.
In its first two seasons in the SEC, MU finished 38-65, including a 16-44 conference record.
“First, I want to express my gratitude to Mack and the rest of our administration for having confidence in my staff and I as we continue to improve our program alongside the best in the nation in the SEC,” Jamieson said. “We are coming off of a year that is more reflective of the success we saw throughout our tenure in the Big 12 and we will continue to get better as we take on the challenges of competing in the SEC.”
Jamieson, who took over for McArtor in 1996, was the 2007 Big 12 coach of the year and has had 66 players drafted during his tenure, including three of the six MU players who became first-round major-league draft picks — Max Scherzer in 2006, Aaron Crow in 2008 and Kyle Gibson in 2009.
Three former Tigers under Jamieson — Crow, Scherzer and Ian Kinsler — have been selected to the All-Star Game.
“We are committed to investing in our program and student-athletes in order to increase our competitiveness in the premier baseball conference in the country,” Rhoades said. “Coach Jamieson led our program to high levels of success in the past and we anticipate the same in the future. Tim manages his program with great integrity and represents Mizzou in a first-class manner.”
Missouri executive associate athletic director Tim Hickman said baseball is in line for a six-figure increase in its budget, which will increase the salary pool for assistant coaches and provide additional money for travel.
“The commitment Mack and the administration have made to our program is reflected in the increase in our budget and I am beyond grateful to them for helping give us the resources we need to be even more successful in the SEC,” said Jamieson, who must find a new assistant coach/recruiting coordinator after Kerrick Jackson left the program last week for personal reasons.
