Missouri senior 125-pounder Alan Waters was announced Wednesday as the Mid-American Conference wrestler of the week for the second time this season.
Waters, a Park Hill graduate, remained undefeated with three wins last weekend at the National Duals Final in Iowa City, Iowa.
Waters, 27-0, helped the Tigers knock off Illinois on Saturday by topping No. 1 Jesse Delgado, a two-time reigning NCAA champion, in the quarterfinal round.
Later that day, Waters also won a decision against Lehigh’s Scott Parker in the semifinals.
During the tournament’s championship dual with then-No. 1 Iowa, Waters got then-No. 2 Missouri’s upset started with a 5-4 decision against sixth-ranked Thomas Gilman.
The Tigers, 24-0, moved up to first place in the USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association poll. MU, which has won 28 consecutive duals dating back to last season, received all 12 first-place votes.
It is the sixth weekly conference award of Waters’ career, including three in the Big 12 and one last season in the MAC.
Next, Missouri hosts the MAC Wrestling Championships on March 7-8 at the Hearnes Center in Columbia.
The Tigers are seeking a fourth straight conference title after winning the Big 12 in 2012 and claiming MAC titles the last two seasons.
