Bishop Miege quarterback Ryan Willis committed to the Kansas football team Friday, becoming the first member of the Jayhawks’ 2015 recruiting class.
Willis, who started for Miege last season and will be a senior this fall, is a three-star recruit and rated as the third-best prospect in Kansas, according to Rivals.com. He also had offers from Kansas State, Illinois, Wyoming and others.
Willis’ father played at Kansas State, but Charlie Weis managed to snag a key local recruit. It’s the second Miege quarterback that has committed to Weis. Sophomore starter Montell Cozart graduated from Miege in 2013.
Last month, Willis appeared to like Kansas’ new spread offense under first-year coordinator John Reagan.
“I think it will be a successful offense,” Willis told Rivals. “Coach John Reagan has added some things with the quarterback and they are getting the ball to their play-makers in space.”
