KU had 48 points in the paint.A better night for Tarik Black
Kansas senior Tarik Black finally played some extended minutes after averaging just three points and three fouls during the Jayhawks’ first three games. Black, a 6-foot-9 forward, had six points and four rebounds in 15 minutes.
He also sparked a 47-11 run with a one-handed dunk in the opening minutes of the first half.
“It felt real good,” Black said. “Because it was just the momentum thing, it just got everything going. That’s what sparked everything. Because I think the next play, that’s when Wayne (Selden) came down and had the two-hand dunk on the guy, and that just got everything flowing.”
Black, a senior transfer from Memphis, finished the game with four fouls, but the game was still a step forward.
“As a basketball player,” Black said, “I don’t plan on coming out every night and sitting on the sideline. And it felt good being out on the court and doing what I love to do.”
• Freshman Frank Mason led Kansas with a career-high six assists.
