A new wave of athletic facility enhancements is on the way at Kansas State.
On Wednesday, the Wildcats took their first step toward $62 million worth of privately funded upgrades to Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Bramlage Coliseum and Tointon Family Stadium when the Kansas Board of Regents approved without discussion the proposed improvements at their monthly meeting.
The facility upgrades include $50 million for an overhaul of the north end of Snyder Family Stadium, where the football team’s training complex and offices are located. A renovation would provide new training facilities as well as expanded space for football operations. The other $12 million would go toward new video boards and sound improvements at all three venues.
Snyder Family Stadium has a small, outdated video board at its north end. The video boards at Bramlage Coliseum are also dated. Tointon Family Stadium, where the baseball team plays, doesn’t have a video board.
Plans for the proposed upgrades are in the early stages, and no timetable has been set for the beginning or end of construction.
“The recent details from the Kansas Board of Regents agenda is a step in the process as we examine our options for the next phase of the Bill Snyder Family Stadium Master Plan and appropriately assess costs and feasibility,” Kenny Lannou, Kansas State assistant athletic director for communications, said in a news release. “No specific construction timetable has been determined at this time.”
K-State recently completed more than $100 million worth of athletic facility upgrades, including a basketball training facility located next to Bramlage Coliseum, a rowing facility and the West Stadium Center at Snyder Family Stadium.
The basketball training facility opened at the beginning of the 2012-13 season, while the renovations at Snyder Family Stadium were completed before the start of the 2013 season.
But the West Stadium Center came with six phases of improvements. The current renovations took care of the first two. Lannou said K-State’s proposed plans are for phase three, though improvement to the football team’s training complex are featured in phase six.
