Kansas State put six players on the Associated Press’ All-Big 12 teams announced Monday, including three first-teamers.

Wildcats junior Tyler Lockett led the way with first-team selections as a receiver and as an all-purpose player. Lockett, who caught 71 passes for 1,146 yards and eight touchdowns, was joined by junior defensive end Ryan Mueller and senior safety Ty Zimmerman.

Mueller, a St. Thomas Aquinas grad from Leawood, led K-State with 11 1/2 sacks. He also made 61 tackles, and was considered a candidate for Big 12 defensive player of the year, which went to Texas end Jackson Jeffcoat.

Zimmerman made 69 tackles and three interceptions before ending his season early with an injury against TCU. Zimmerman has now received all-conference accolades of some form in four straight years.

K-State senior linebacker Blake Slaughter, junior center B. J. Finney and senior left tackle Cornelius Lucas were second-team selections.

Kansas placed two players on All-Big 12 teams. Senior James Sims was a first-team running back, and junior Ben Heeney was a second-team linebacker.

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty was chosen offensive player of the year and West Virginia running back Charles Sims and Oklahoma linebacker Dominique Alexander were the newcomers of the year. The AP’s Big 12 coach of the year will be announced Tuesday.
