• ABOUT CHARLOTTE (2-1) :

The 49ers have wins against East Tennessee State and Elon. Their loss came to the College of Charleston. Charlotte is gifted offensively. Four of its starters average more than 13 points. Charlotte won its early season tournament last year, the Great Alaska Shootout.

• ABOUT KANSAS STATE (2-1):

The Wildcats have won two games in a row, scoring 71 points in both games. Foster has led the way, averaging 16.7 points. Southwell was expected to lead the team in scoring, but is averaging 9.3 points. K-State is hoping to get key contributions from Thomas Gipson, who missed the first two games because of concussionlike symptoms.

• BOTTOM LINE: Charlotte has two high-quality post players. K-State will need to play strong defense against them to win its first game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
