Shawn Weigel is William Jewell’s new football coach.
Weigel, the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, was elevated when Jerod Kruse resigned.
Weigel has been on the Cardinals’ staff for nine years and has also been an assistant coach at West Texas A&M, Austin College (Texas), and Colorado School of the Mines. He’s a native of McCook, Neb.
Kruse stepped down to pursue other opportunities in coaching. He had been the head coach since 2009 and oversaw the program’s transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II.
Last season, Jewell, picked to finish last in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, finished 5-6 overall and 5-3 in the league.
“We’ve made steady progress under coach Kruse, and I can’t wait to put my stamp on the program has head coach,” Weigel said.
