KEY PLAYS: After making the Jaguars go three plays and out on the game’s first possession, the Chiefs scored on their first possession for the first time this season. After taking over at their 43, a 13-yard pass from Matt Cassel to Jamaal Charles got the Chiefs past midfield and they eventually settled for a field goal. … Quarterback David Garrard scrambled for 8 yards and gave the Jaguars their initial first down at the Jacksonville 38. One play later, his 12-yard pass to Maurice Jones-Drew put the Jaguars past midfield. On the touchdown, safety Mike Brown was in position to make a tackle but Jennings used an effective stiff-arm to keep him away. … Charles misjudged the kickoff and the Chiefs took over at their 14. They averted disaster when a potential interception fell incomplete, but punted after three plays. … The Jaguars lost a big play on a penalty but came right back and got one on the next snap when Garrard passed for 33 yards to Jarett Dillard. Mike Thomas took a reverse 18 yards, putting Jacksonville past midfield at the end of the period.

The Chiefs faced fourth and 1 from the Jacksonville 48 but punted. … After getting the ball back, the Chiefs continued to flounder.
